Planning a school visit

The National Theatre welcomes groups of all sizes and ages.  For all group booking enquiries please call 020 7452 3010 or e-mail groups@nationaltheatre.org.uk.  Further details regarding ticket prices and how to book can be found on the Ticket Information page.

Before your visit

  • We recommend that your group include one teacher, or accompanying adult, for every nine group members
  • For information about the performance, on anything from lighting effects to running times, please phone the Information Desk on 020 7452 3400
  • We do not produce Risk Assessments for groups attending a performance.  For guidance on conducting your own, please download the Risk Assessment Information for Schools document below
  • Why not gain a further insight into the National Theatre by going behind the scenes on a Backstage Tour?
  • For pre or post-performance workshops or talks linked to the production that you are seeing, email takepart@nationaltheatre.org.uk
  • Download free online resources for NT productions at nationaltheatre.org.uk/workpacks

Arriving at the theatre

  • We suggest you aim to arrive 45 minutes before the advertised start time in order to locate the right venue, your seats and any other facilities
  • All bags must be left in the free cloakrooms before entering the auditorium
  • Latecomers, for most performances, will be admitted at a suitable break. If you arrive after this point you may be asked to stand
  • School groups are welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks to consume in the Front of house areas, or on our terraces overlooking the Thames.

In the auditorium

  • Do not take food and drink into the auditorium
  • Please ensure your group sits in the correct seats.  The row and seat number are printed on each ticket.  Teachers should seat themselves amongst the group and, if possible, at the ends of rows
  • Please remind your group that disturbances or noise, however small, can be distracting for other members of the audience, as well as the actors. Check that mobile phones, MP3 players, etc are turned off
